Dr. Fayron Epps
Dr. Fayron Epps (affectionately known as Dr. Fayron) is a visionary nurse scientist, author, and faith-based leader specializing in dementia care, family caregiving, and health disparities. She is nationally recognized for her pioneering work to advance dementia awareness and caregiving support within Black communities.
Dr. Fayron is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, the Southern Gerontological Society, and the Gerontological Society of America. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Southern Gerontological Society, the Gerontological Society of America, and the Alzheimer's Association South Texas Chapter.
Her community-engaged research focuses on partnering with faith communities to enhance dementia care and resources. She explores how faith-based organizations can strengthen support systems for families and caregivers, while developing culturally relevant strategies to reduce health disparities in dementia care.
As the Founder of AlterDementia-the nation's only nurse-led, dementia-friendly congregation program-Dr. Fayron leads efforts to create inclusive faith spaces and empower caregivers through education and advocacy. Her work reflects a deep commitment to compassion, cultural humility, and equity-qualities essential to both healthcare and academia.
